Red Flag Information

Red Flag

Red Flag is an incredible performance space tucked away on Locust Street. First time visitors might not know what to expect with the simple exterior, since it’s a black building with the Red Flag logo on the side. But once you step past the front gates, the magic really shines through.

You’ll see a trendy space with a wide open floor in front of the stage. Some shows will have seating scattered across the space while others will have open floor for dancing the night away. Along the walls you’ll see several booths that are designed with different looks, but each offering that hip club feel that you don’t often find at concert halls across the country.

And the stage itself is supported with top-of-the-line lights and sound design that keeps guests closer to the action than ever before. As well as a backdrop projection screen that highlights the show with anything the visiting band and performers can come up with.

It’s simply one of the most interesting experiences that you can find on their side of the country.

Red Flag has become a firm favorite with fans of rock, punk, and metal, but promotes itself as a home for all genres of music. Its capacity of 1,000 makes it a popular touring stop for up-and-coming bands ascending the fame ladder.

Red Flag can be found at 3040 Locust Street – just across the road from where its spiritual predecessor Fubar stood. That was until 2020, when Fubar closed permanently and its owners launched Red Flag.

Since then, Red Flag has very much supplanted the legendary Fubar in the hearts of St. Louis locals. However, with double Fubar’s capacity, Red Flag is likely to attract acts of a higher caliber than what was par for the course at Fubar.

Red Flag also provides the ideal place for local talent to shine, while you can expect to catch the occasional comedy act here, too.

Where the name comes from

Many residents of St. Louis, Missouri, will be more than familiar with the city’s official flag. Its design is quickly recognizable from its three blue, wavy, connected lines on a solid red background.

These three lines represent the confluence of the Missouri and Mississippi rivers. They also feel like an apt metaphor for the varied cultural scene of the Gateway City, as St. Louis has been dubbed.

Such variety is typified by the vibrant events programme at the St. Louis venue known as Red Flag. (How appropriate, given the name of the venue, that its logo prominently features the official flag of St. Louis!)

Venue history

Many music-loving St. Louis locals might remember Fubar. This venue was established in the city in 2008 and became well-known locally for attracting hardcore, metal, and hip-hop acts. Like Red Flag, it also hosted comedy nights on occasion.

Fubar was located at 3108 Locust Street and saw a number of upgrades over the years. Eventually, though, Fubar’s management saw fit to close the building down and switch to a new one with even greater potential. The Fubar name didn’t survive the big change, with the new building being opened under a different name, Red Flag.

The last show at Fubar took place on February 15, 2020 – with Fister, Ultraman, Slow Damage, and the Disappeared providing the entertainment. The first concert at Fubar’s replacement happened the following day, with Hed PE being immortalised as the first act to perform on Red Flag’s stage.

It was a larger stage than Fubar’s, too. Red Flag has since provided years of thrilling live entertainment and amassed consistently positive reviews from patrons. It’s hard to deny that Red Flag has proved itself a worthy successor to the long-beloved Fubar.

What else can you expect

Besides world class music and entertainers gracing the stage? Red Flag also has a small selection of authentic arcade cabinets so you can toss in a few quarters and play some popular video games before the show or during breaks in the action. You can expect a great selection of drinks from the bar. And let’s not forget that Red Flag hospitality that has made it a popular destination for touring guests.

Everything you could ever want and more can be found only at Red Flag!
